I suggest trying to model the torso right inside a sketch, where the whole figure can be handled with line and the torso rendered a bit further, keeping in mind the earlier video lessons on drawing the abdominal muscles.
The hatching shouldn’t be too active; you can use a 6B pencil with the grain reduced, and the Smudge tool with the Nikko Rull brush.
