About the course
A course that for years ran only in semesters is now recorded and split into seven weeks, so there’s no intake to wait for. Every week is theory and practice: color temperature and contrasts in a still life, a still life with a candle, composition in two parts with a plaster head and a portrait, states of the environment and a cityscape, an interior, and the final presentation. Every week has homework; the bonus block has a review of students' work.
This is not a beginner level: it assumes you already hold value and light, and the best entry point is after the course on the basics of digital painting. The difficulty here is a different one. With colored light or two sources, the shadow usually gets painted in the same color as the light, only darker, and the picture goes muddy. The course covers how to separate the temperature of light and shadow, and what happens to local color when the state of the environment changes.
With your own hands you’ll paint six or seven setups in different genres: two still lifes, a plaster head, a portrait, a cityscape with perspective and an interior composition, and then present them the way it’s done for a portfolio. Any tool works — a tablet or an iPad with pressure, Procreate, Krita, Photoshop, Sketchbook.
The mini-course comes with the Club plan and isn’t sold separately. The subscription opens everything at once: the mini-courses, the video lesson archive, the reference packs and the marathon recordings.
