A defined build is convenient because it shows clearly the places people usually fake: the serratus under the pectoral, the crest of the ilium, the way the deltoid behaves with the arm raised. Once you’ve found those landmarks on a defined model, you start finding them on a soft-formed one too, where almost nothing shows from the outside.

It’s better to take this set in blocks, one topic at a time. A week on the torso: ten shots in a row, in each one only the big form and the rhythm from the pit of the neck down to the pelvis, no details. The next week, the same selection, but three poses at an hour each with the attachments taken apart. Leave the shots in motion for quick sketches: a minute per pose, and the only task is to catch the axis and the tilt of the pelvis.
