Digital portrait: tasks of the month
Sessions on color in digital: warm and cool, color schemes, colored light and carrying a portrait through in Procreate. Live stream and practice recordings, with brushes and references attached to the lessons.

2–8 August
A portrait in three layers
A painted portrait in digital: the first layer is the big shape of light and shadow, the second is color and temperature, the third is the accents. Stop at every layer and look at the piece as a whole. Moving on to details with the big form wrong is an evening lost. Keep the canvas small so you don’t drown in pixels.
9–15 August
A limited palette
A portrait in three colors plus white. Choose the colors in advance and don’t add new ones. The limit forces you to look for relationships instead of picking a shade with the eyedropper. That is exactly how a feel for color is built. Show your palette next to the piece.
16–22 August
Light from two sides
A portrait with two sources: a main warm one and a cool rim light from behind or from the side. Keep one source as the main one; the second only hints at the form along the edge. When both are equal in strength, the head falls apart. Digital, any editor.
23–29 August
Skin: not a color but relationships
One portrait — three lighting versions: daylight, sunset, a room with a lamp. The same model in all three. The color of the skin is different every time, even though it is one person. The task is to see that skin takes its color from the light and the surroundings. Three canvases side by side.
