What this lesson is about

Hi!

Here, for example, are four video lessons on drawing the figure in difficult perspective.

The first video lesson is about working up a silhouette from imagination. We draw a fairly grotesque male silhouette, and as I draw I talk about keeping the proportions, bringing out the key forms, and using boxy forms to sort out the volumes in the figure.

In the second lesson we study the basic techniques of working with perspective. We figure out how to draw the human figure from above, fit the figure into perspective, and try to work out what helps more — precise construction or the eye (spoiler: both!)

The third lesson is the figure seen from below. Imagine you’re drawing a monumental statue as tall as a ten-story building :)) Again we’ll pay attention to getting the proportions right, work out what the relationships in the figure will be at such an unusual angle, and how to build a sound construction.

In the fourth and final lesson of the series we’ll do one more superhero in three-point perspective. Along the way we’ll try to balance keeping the proportions, getting the openings right, and expressive plasticity.

And in the second half of the lesson we’ll look at movement — a superhero doesn’t stand still, after all; he can run, fight, shoot, and so on. So we’ll draw a figure in mid-jump!

I recommend watching the videos and following along with me first, and after that trying a few quick sketches of your own in extreme perspective and in motion, from references or even from imagination, leaning on the big movement.

Thank you all for your support and your attention!
