upd. I’ve added the Nikko rull brush for those who asked 😉 For this assignment we’ll need three brushes: a 6B pencil (with the grain turned down), Ghibli, and the Nikko rull brush (also with less grain).

Before starting the main portrait I’d recommend knocking out a few other heads to loosen up and get a feel for the material. You can start with whichever brush you like.

Here’s how I work: I block everything in with the rough Ghibli brush, then refine with the 6B pencil, and cover the large areas with Nikko rull at a big size. It’s a tricky assignment, but a really interesting one!
